I felt that it was time to update my niece"s quilts so this year they will be receiving bigger quilts for their birthdays.
I have started this scrappy paper pieced one.
I used the Autograph block from EQ7 designs, size 2.5.
If you look at one of the pictures, you will see three piles.
I try to be earth friendly when I work in my sewing room so one pile of paper is for the recycle bin, one pile is for the scrap bin(yes, scraps breed scraps)and the pile with tiny pieces of scraps and thread is for the art teacher at my school, who uses these for collages.
What about you dear reader, any earth friendly or money savings projects you have started this year?

I too have a recycling bin in the sewing room and I also recycle my batting and scraps to a friend who uses them to make dog beds for the shelter.
You are right on that one...scraps do breed scraps...I do eventually throw some away, but save most to be used again. I want to do one of those quilts that are just all slivers of color.I am saving my trimmings for that.

Great idea for the quilts , so colorful! I save my scraps and use them for dog beds, my own dog as well as my son's ,just made one for our dog Luke and he loves it :-)
Way to go, I do this all the time. I have more in my stash that is found, reused, given to me than I buy new. I find a greater variety in all my projects due to frugality in quilting.
well done you on being earth friendly. I've been collecting old, cast-off clothing from friends and family, I've only used a tiny bit of it so far, I really need to have a good sort through and organise it so I'm more likely to use it, it's currently in 3 overstuffed boxes!
I used a similar pattern for a quilt that I made. I can see how paper piecing would have been a good option so that those strips match! Great job! It is going to be an awesome quilt..
I wish shipping was not so expensive, I would ship you all of my scraps.
