A Christmas Gift Completed

Yesterday was the best Sunday I have had in a long time. The weather was just perfect for stitching outside. That is exactly what I did.
I sat on the lanai and admired everything that was blooming and I sewed the binding on my daughters picnic quilt.
Several weeks ago she wanted to go on a picnic and she decided to use my husband's work under the car blanket. She proceeded to wash this massive blanket only to find that it came apart in the wash and left shreds of batting scattered everywhere!
It broke my heart that she did not dare use any of the quilts I had made her.
So, I took a top I had made several months ago to practice Bonnie's leaders and enders system ( Quiltville) and I appliqued Beca's Picnic Quilt on it using some charms I had on hand. I think the name of the charms are Woodland something??? Anyway, the quilt is scrappy but now she will have something for her picnics.
It is a surprise so please do not tell.
Anyway, I am going to make her a tote bag to carry it in and a pillow to tug along on her picnics.
After quilting and admiring the flora, I headed to the new Kohl's and found these great kitchen towels that will work for my appliques.
Though the picture is too bright , these towels are fall colors. Rich red, mustard and sage.
I usually get my towels at Ross and Dunroven direct but it is nice to have a new source now. They were under $3.00 and they are the perfect size that I use.
So overall, a lovely day.

I like how you appliqued the words on the picnic quilt and love the hexagon quilt. That's a big one! And your DJ C-1 block turned out great.

I love that you named it as you did! This way she will know it's okay to take it outside! Don't be sad she didn't want to use the quilts you have already made her as picnicquilts! That's just because they are treasured ;-) I do know how you feel though....quilts are made to be used :-)

What a great use of colour. Scrappy quilts are my favourite. The applique proves once again that there is love in every stitch (to quote my youngest grand-daughter).

How cute to write on the quilt like that -- now she definitely won't be afraid to use it for picnics! I like a simple design like the squares for something that's meant to be used on the ground. I'm sure your daughter will be very pleased.
