I didn't see it coming!

While having lunch with my daughter the other day, she says "Mom, how are you going to decorate my room when I go off to college"?
Well, it caught me completely off guard because I had totally forgotten about her empty room.
It will become the guest room and I will FINALLY HAVE MY OWN SEWING ROOM!

I'm not really that happy. I guess that is why I did not even think about her room being empty. I really do not want her to leave yet but I know she must.
As you can see from the looks of her room she barely has time to clean it.
She is finishing her high school classes, doing an internship at a local hospital for her CNA license, takes college classes at night and works!
I never see her anyway but it is the fact that she is grown and will have her own place.
Where did the years go?

My eldest will go to Uni in just over 15 months time and I'm totally dreading it - she is such good company I will miss her dreadfully, I can totally empathise with you

How far away is she going to college? It will be an adjustment but you will do well with it. It also is giving you a whole bunch of NEW stuff to make as you make things for her new place. Will she be coming home on school vacations or is this move out of the house going to be a permanent move? I think fixing up your own sewing space will be a lot of fun and will help with your adjustment. If not, then maybe you will have to invite some of us to GO there and stay in the guest room and keep you company. LOL

A daughter never really leaves home though. I 'left' ours at the age of 20 and I'm now 37, despite the fact that my room became my parents room and the spare room became an art studio there is always a bed available for me. It will be the same for your daughter too. It will take some getting used to, just make sure that your new sewing room has a sofa bed in it!!!

It is hard, especially having the last one leave...it's the end of an era...but how nice to have a sewing room. Just hope she cleans it out...lol...mine usually left lots of stuff behind. And of course they came back and forth too. So I didn't do anything to their rooms for years.

Maybe you will see her more once she has her own place and she isn't running a million different directions. When Lacy moved out I think she left as much at my house as she took. Finally I told her take all of your stuff. lol She was insulted that I wanted her to take everything. You will enjoy making lots of pretties for the guest room. Start thinking of a theme and let us know what you decide.

Oh, it's hard not to have a room there for them that they can call their own, isn't it? The extra space for a sewing room will be nice, though!

Or. She could be like mine and move back home after college. :-)

My heart goes out to you....having a child leave home is not easy but...having your own sewing room will be fun...

Wow - I am surprised she mentioned it. My daughter won't let me touch her room - she comes home for summers and holidays while she is in college. In fact, she is spreading her things all around the house now more than she did when she was much younger.

Unfortunately children do grow up and move away. I know you will miss her, but she will always be your daughter and will come home often.

Oh Boy....go to my old post of last summer to see what I went through with son leaving to college. It is hard for sure. His room is now my guest room but gets thrashed each and every time he comes home. I'm glad to hear you get some sewing space of your very own...close the door walk away and pick up where you left off is wonderful.
