My daughter wanted some place mats for her new apartment.
I was so busy making bedroom stuff that I barely made her things for her other rooms like valances,place mats, etc...
I have only made place mats 1 time and they are the ones pictures on the top left.
When I was learning to piece, I stayed up one night until 4 a.m. because I wanted to make some mats and this is what I came up with. For the life of me I could not repeat this process without a pattern now, but yet the 1st ones I made are from my head and not a pattern. I am regressing with age.
Anyway, the best I could do for her were the yellow ones you see in a simple checker pattern. She selected all the fabrics and they are ready for her little dinette table.

The placemats are very nice, especially first time mats. I make them a lot as gifts. Fir a pattern I traced a store bought one on freezer paper and use that over and over. I like the 9 block idea in the center, may try that next. I live near Pat C and feel like I know you as I read your comments on her blog just about every day, so Hello to you, Happy Quilting
