Let's get a jump start on Christmas gifts
This bag of scraps was my inspiration for these Christmas place mats.
I have been making place mats for my daughter and this is my 5Th set.
I am trying to make her one set for each month as a wedding gift.
So far, I have summer mats with a lemon theme, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Autumn sunflowers, valentines and now Christmas.
I still need to make January mats(Ideas welcome).
Easter mats.
4Th of July mats and of course some John Deere mats for her future husband.
Step 1: Each mat requires 16 -3.5x4.5 rectangles
step 2: Connect 4 rectangles by the short end. Do this 4 times and you will have 4 strips.
Step 3.Connect the strips to make the mat.
Step 4: Add batting and a backing.
Step 5: Quilt as desired.
Step 6: Even off if needed.
Step 7: Bind

What a lucky gal your daughter is! I have always said I was going to do placemats and pillowcases with themes like that for around the year, but never did it yet. I'm thinking the obvious choice for January is something snowy....snowflakes or snowmen. (I know...not very original....but that certainly says "January" to me! LOL)
What a great idea! A friend of mine has been making me napkins for every month of the year...she gives me a different set for birthday and Christmas gifts....now I'm going to have to make some placemats to go with them!
I agree with Pat...I was thinking snowflakes for January!
XOXO,

What a lovely gift for your daughter! I made one set for my daughter last year - maybe I should do some more.
great idea! Enjoyed catching up on your blog cheers teri
how pretty, i love those place mats.....
I'm with Pat and Cyndi, something snowy for January. I love the Christmas placemats.
That's a terrific idea, it makes me wish I hadn't given away my Christmas fabric ages ago when I thought I didn't need it.
Great idea! Your daughter is so lucky!!!
Love your scraps! You put them to such fine use. January makes me think of snow boots, reading by the fire (well, if I had a fireplace I would!), cocoa in big mugs, chickadees in the snow.
I am thinking snowflakes for January.
...or how about a red cardinal for January with a snoy background.
What a wonderful idea! Placemats are always great gifts!

I've started "thinking" about Christmas gifts. Does that count?
Great idea! I am getting ready to start on some Christmas gifts too. I have fabric to make my great niece and great nephews library bags. They are still very little and love carry around Mom's bag.
Oh...I am so jealous of your daughter.... I would love to have a daughter to bestow fun stuff on....she will just enjoy everything you make....it is not long till she is married.
Great idea! Lucky daughter!
Yes, now is the time to drag out Christmas fabric and sew for Christmas. I always wait too long to start but will try to get going on that myself--(famous last words!)
Lucky daughter! does she need a sister? ... I'm available, chuckle ....... great usage ... oy! Christmas already? Yup! it's just around the corner.
Have a lovely week!

Oh, good reminder. I need to start thinking Christmas, too.
Please, help me - I love "jumping" on Christmas early too and right now I'm finding it hard to find ANY time to sew.
Although I did pick out fabric this morning for my July Schnibble.
Oh I like this christmas fabric.
Hi Betsy,
You have been BUSY! All your projects look absolutely lovely. I love that crazy quilt block with that peacock too! :)
