I purchased this pattern Halloween Journey in July.
My friend enlarged it for me and I have been stitching it ever since.
I love my choice of colors and I like that I substituted wool for fabric in the applique.
I did not dare quilt the center because I thought it would ruin the embroidery, but as can be seen from the pictures I should have quilted the center to make it hang better.
I have been quilting 7 years and I should have known better since it has taken me 3 months to complete this wall hanging.
Please help. Is there anything I can do to it now?
I want to make a Christmas one but how do I quilt the embroidery?

I think you could do some echo quilting BY HAND around the entire embroidered design. It's a nice piece and I'm sure you'll get it fixed in a way that makes you happy with it.
I have seen quilts that had embroidery on them. The person just cross hatched straight through the embroidery and it looks fine.
What a beautiful finish Betsy! I'm not an expert at all, but a wall hanging that I'm working on now has instructions to quilt right next to the applique. Would that work right next to the stem? Just an idea.

Gosh, it really is gorgeous -- you did a great job with it! I think Pat is spot-on with the idea of hand quilting around the entire design. That would give it a bit more stability. :)
The wall hanging looks great. What about tiny stippling between the lines of the hand embroidery.

It is beautiful Betsy but I am sorry i have no idea how you could fix the center .That was a lot of stitching!
This is so cool!If it were me, I would be tempted to leave it as I would be worried about ruining it. I don't think it looks bad. If you do, you could always tack from the back in some places to hold it together.
Next time, you could use fusible batting and fuse the top to it, then stitch wherever you want....the fusing will hold it in place.
You've done a beautiful job with the embroidery. I love it!
Perhaps through the vines and around the pumpkins and arch and then around the bold letters? That sounds like a lot of work, but it might help.
I, too, would sitich between the lines. You, however, could tie it, little orange ties every 3" (between the lines) would add another element and keep the center from sagging. I would probably block it first to shrink the fabric a little and then either stitch or tie.
I like someone's idea of cross-hatch stitching. I also thought you could use thread in the light background color and stitch a spider web pattern over the loose area. It would be subtle and hold the fabric down.
The wall hanging is wonderful just as-is too. I would love to show it in my home ;)

Beautiful stitchery and I love the wavy outside border.
I'm no quilter so can offer no advice on the problem of how to anchor the centre.
