Making rugs, Frugality at its best!

I received " Rugs to Rags" from hubby as a Christmas gift

and he also made the frame that was suggested in the book.
I am using my long leftover strips to make rugs for my childrens homes. No expense here at all since the strips are coming from my scrap bin. I did have some 2.5 inch jelly roll strips I purchased from my sponsors earlier in the year.(On my side bar)
I am starting the year with the list I started throughout Christmas on the things I will create for Christmas 2013 without breaking the bank.I am thinking that if I have brighter strips, I may also make one for my grandaughter and nieces. Thanks to my dear friend Barb who sent me some wonderful Hawaiian themed fabric strips that will quickly be put to use on this frame. Believe , this is very addicting. My daughter and I are going to make some for the veterans shelters in Tampa Florida. I am thinking about using strips of old tee shirts. Opinions welcome.
Has anyone else started making gifts for Christmas or for throughout the year?
Please share your thoughts

That's a fantastic idea! I saw these being made at the quilt show and they are gorgeous. Now I know who to send my strings to from now on. I just donated a ton but they do seem to breed.

Hi "B"....your rug project look very interesting and a great way to use scraps.
I am actually going to make a Christmas quilt using hand embroidery blocks along with maybe some star blocks. My first block is a reindeer which I posted about along with a photo a few days ago.
Take care.

That looks like a wonderful book. I have been thinking about making a rug, but didn't really feel like crochet...maybe that is just what I am looking for.

Love your rug from rags! I am going to do something similar with my scraps this summer -- I am starting to collect them now! Thanks for linking up for the Minutes for Me Linky Party!

What a great idea, maybe I should find things for men to make... I use to crochet rugs maybe I can do that for them? Any ideas? I love what you are doing and a great way to do the scraps, do you tie the scraps together?

Way ahead of the game for sure, but I love anything frugal. I will keep an eye for the finish!

Good on you for being so prepared!
