A few weeks ago,Yvette dared me to make my 1/4 inch hexie quilt into a king size quilt.
Well I took the dare but after much thought realized (OK, I came to my senses) that a queen size quilt was in order since I do not own a king size bed.
So I emailed her and asked if I could change the dare to Queen size.
So, I went to the math professor at my school and I asked him to do the math.
My hexie top today measures 15x26.
It needs to measure 90x108.
How many more hexies do I need to make?
Well, before I give you the answer, you may have to sit because it may cause faintness.
First, I want to thank everyone who sent me scraps a few months ago.
I only need 1.5 inch squares because it is a scrap charm quilt.
According to the math pro, I will need to make 24 more blocks this size, or roughly about 37,900 more hexies!
He also calculated that if I make 31 hexies a day or work on it 1 hour a day, it would take me 2 years to complete.

Can you have him figure out another aspect of this for me? I would like to know the approximate weight of this hexie quilt if it gets to be queen-sized. I have a feeling it would weigh pretty heavy, too. (I know yo-yo's weigh heavy when you get a lot of them in one project.) Gosh...if you are serious about doing this, I guess we have to keep sending you scraps... a lot of them and often!!! LOL
My word, 2 yrs is a long long time. Maybe during the summer you could work on it 2 hrs a day. I am curious also to know what it would weigh.
Oh my gosh you are going to be a busy bee.. :)
oh me...that is a long time and a lot of work.
Do it! An hour a day for two years - can you manage that? Or a half an hour a day for 4 years - imagine the quilt you will have at the end!
I love complicated quilt patterns - I don't think about the time it takes - I just do a little every day and voilá - you have a quilt before you know it!
LOL. They say it all starts with one stitch. The question is...do you really want a hexagon quilt on your queen size bed? If so, I know you can do it.
And this comes from someone that spends two years to make a king size Hawaiian quilt (for each time I've done this) for my bed.

OMG I think it is perfect right now...you could use it on a doll bed. Personally I think you should just continue until you are tired of it and just see how far you get.
OMG!...that's going to be a lot of hexies Betsy..
I don't think I could do it..
Good for you in doing this..
Julia ♥
Weel are you still goimh to do a gueen size and yes how heavy is it already. Lots of luck
Thats a lot of hexies! You can do it... :)
OMG!!!U go girl!This is a great traveling project. BTW....15 minutes a day = done in 8 years......sssooooo its quite do-able!
All that being said in your post, do you want to thank Yvette or choke her? lOL
You can do it!!!
I promise to cut some scraps for you so you don't run out.
OK......I think a doll quilt will work. I don't want you to get carpul tunnel from this. If you want a queen size then we will get you some larger hexagon templates. LOL!
What a dare! It seems like a long time, but really not. If you enjoy it, I say go for it. Just like my Dear Jane at one block a week, I know it will take me 4 years to complete, but you are going to have something wonderful in the end.
I can't believe how many hexies there are in that quilt! Great job!

I'll start putting together some scraps to send - I don't want to hold up your progress Betsy!
Your work is simply beautiful and breathtaking. Thanks for sharing.
Wow! That would be quite an accomplishment. Are you going for it?
Wow!!! Are you going to do this?? I'm also curious about the weight of it. That was one of the reasons I gave up on doing the Insanity quilt with half-inch hexagons.
I love the idea of your hexagon quilt, though -- there's something about doing a quilt like that that is just so inspiring!!
wow.....that is alot of hexies....and many more to go....great goal to set...and best wishes to get it accomplished!!
After hearing all those numbers have you changed your mind? I think I would have.
amazing...seriously.
